Hackers Send False Nuclear Alerts to Ukrainian and Russian Citizens
The breaches, occurring just before a ceasefire in Kherson, exposed vulnerabilities in emergency alert systems across Ukraine, Russia, and Brazil.

Breach Details
On Sunday night, hackers accessed the Air Alarm app used by Ukrainian citizens and the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations platform, triggering false alerts about nuclear attacks and chemical threats.
False Alerts Issued
The Ukrainian app issued red‑level warnings for air attacks, radiation, and urban combat in Kiev, while the Russian platform displayed informal messages with nuclear threat language, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Expert Analysis
Experts from BBC and Security Affairs warned that such disruptions remove critical communication channels during crises, urging governments to diversify alerts through sirens, radio, and alternative digital channels, as stated by the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation.
A similar breach hit Brazil’s Defense Civil alert system, sending messages containing the word "misantropia" to phones across several states, underscoring the global nature of the threat, according to the Defense Civil.
